DESCRIPTION:Are you intrigued by recent feminist activism but don't quite know where you fit in?  Do you wonder why feminists can't just get along?  Are you inspired by the feminists around you\, and do you feel curious about what's next?  If so\, this discussion is for you!\n\n \n\nAlthough we often talk of "feminism\," in this seminar\, we will consider "feminisms."  Dr. Stubblefield will outline several different kinds of feminism:  what they value\, how they define and address problems\, what they look like in practice.  We will then consider how we can create solidarity among women and work together to improve the lives of women and girls in the U.S. and abroad.  Finally\, we will explore the implications of different kinds of feminisms for our professional and personal lives.  \n\n \n\nBy the end of the session\, participants will be able to do the following:\n\n            Define several different kinds of feminism\n\n            Understand how these feminisms approach the world\n\n            Identify connections between feminisms and our lives.\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\nDr. Trisha Stubblefield is a professor at Cottey College\, a women's college in Nevada\, MO\, where she has taught English and Women\, Gender\, & Sexuality Studies since 2001.  A graduate of another women's college\, Converse College\, where she received a B.A. in English and B.M. in Music History\, Dr. Stubblefield earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in English from The University of South Carolina.  At Cottey\, she serves as chair of the humanities division\, coordinator of the English program\, and coordinator of the Women\, Gender\, & Sexuality Studies program.  The founding sponsor of Cottey's Feminist Majority Foundation chapter\, Dr. Stubblefield teaches courses on feminist theories\, the AMC television series _Mad Men_\, and women writers.  She is a proud feminist who believes that "sisterhood is powerful" and that women and girls are the solution not the problem.  While she knows some women resist the "f-word" (feminism)\, she believes they just have not yet found the kind of feminism that speaks to their experience.
