SUMMARY:DT| Cottey College\, Recognizing the Inner Feminist in Yourself and Others 11:45-1:00pm
DESCRIPTION:Most women will agree that equality for women is desirable\, but not everyone is comfortable with the f-word feminism\, that is! Our understanding of the term can be shaped by our developmental stage as well as our experiences. Where do you fall under the feminist umbrella? How can you work with and influence others who are in different "places" vis a vis feminism? Whether you are trying to sway your boss to sponsor an event\, implement a new leave policy at work\, promote an ad campaign\, or educate your child\, increased awareness of the spectrum that is feminism can facilitate your efforts.\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\nDr. Tietz is a professor of psychology at Cottey College\, where she teaches courses in developmental psychology as well as courses in women\, gender\, and sexuality. Dr. Tietz earned her B.A. in psychology at Rice University\, and her M.A. and Ph.D. in developmental psychology at Texas Tech University. In addition to teaching\, she coordinates an afterschool program in a low-income housing addition\, where her students develop and implement lesson plans as they open children's minds to possibilities. A mother of a 16-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son\, Dr. Tietz strives to live out her feminist values in all aspects of her life\, from family life to work to social interactions.
