Laura grew up in a small German community in Missouri where her passion for the culinary arts began at a young age, making pastry dough with her grandmother while sitting on her kitchen counter. She practiced corporate, securities and public finance law for 18 years before jumping career tracks to design and open The Culinary Center of Kansas City® in Overland Park, KS, in 1996. CCKC has enjoyed continued success for 20 years, offering over 600 cooking classes and more than 200 private interactive culinary experiences and teambuildings each year,
in addition to a thriving Kitchen Shop featuring Dinners on Demand™ (chef-prepared frozen dishes). In 2016 Laura licensed a unique kitchen product called the Kitchen Boa™ which is now for sale in more than 2,400 retail stores in the U.S. and around the world.
Laura believes strongly in the magic that happens around the table and in the kitchen, as well as pursuing social entrepreneurship, commitment to community and the philosophy that “if you do good, then you’ll do good.” She was featured on the cover of a national magazine, Family Money, and is a featured speaker on the topics of small business, social entrepreneurship, risk, business and personal mentoring, career changes and the practice of following your heart when it comes to your career. Laura has published two cookbooks: The Best Recipes of The Culinary Center of Kansas City – First Edition (2000) and Second Edition (2013). She is currently living her dream. In 2016, Teri merged her company with DEG (www.degdigital.com), a full service digital and technology based agency – adding a full complement of agency services including digital strategy, social media planning, data, e-commerce and other technology based services. Hint will continue to operate independently in the creative space or can offer a wider range of services to their clients through working together with DEG when appropriate..
Over the years, Teri and her company have been honored with numerous industry awards, as well as awards from business and civic organizations. She currently serves on the Board of ArtsKC where she sits on the Executive Committee as Marketing chair. She also serves on the Board and Executive Board of the KC Streetcar Authority and chairs the Marketing Committee. Previously, Teri was on the Board/Exec Boards of Crossroads Community Association; KC Economic Development Corporation; Missouri Motion Media Association and was past chairman of the Board of the Film Commission of Greater Kansas City and currently sits on their Advisory Board.
