This presentation has 3 main Objectives: #1. Introduce the audience to the field of female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery focusing on the specific medical conditions within the specialty. #2. Summarize the current treatment options available for these conditions with specific concentration on new and innovative approaches #3. Outline the ongoing academic advances and challenges facing the field of urogynecology.
Dr. Burk is a native of the Kansas City area growing up in the Northland. After graduating from Pembroke Country Day, he remained in Kansas City and attended the six-year medical program at UMKC. He left KC to completed an OB/GYN residency at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas followed by private practice in Kirkland, Washington and Springfield, Missouri over the next 20 years. In Springfield, his practice specialized in urogynecology and in 2014 he became Board certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS). That year he joined the department of OB/GYN at UMKC School of Medicine as the Director of FPMRS. He is currently engaged in teaching medical students and residents at Truman Medical Centers, Hospital Hill and Lakewood and maintains a private faculty practice at University Health on the Hospital Hill campus in Kansas City.
