TITLE: Sr. Product Manager - Micronutrients
GEOGRAPHY: Global
LOCATION: Overland Park, KS

REPORTS TO: Director, Marketing and Product Strategy
FLSA Status: Exempt
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.   
 
Summary:
As a member of the Micronutrients Leadership Team, the Product Manager will be responsible for the creation, development and implementation of product plans and strategies including pricing, positioning and marketing strategies for products within the defined product line.  He/She will be accountable for the P&L for the product line globally consistent with the objectives of Plant Nutrition and the company.  He/She will provide leadership working with the sales, marketing, research and development, equipment and production teams in the development of the product strategic plan which will provide overall direction to these teams for action plans and budgets.  Direct responsibilities include coordinating and reporting on the implementation of the product strategic plan, product pricing, maintenance of global and national customer accounts, and product campaign development and coordination.   As a senior member of the Micronutrient team he/she will be interfacing with the Protassium + sales team, agronomy, marketing, operations, equipment, customer care and various corporate functions. This role is a senior-level commercial role that will drive sales growth of the product line to new and existing customers globally.   Achieving the overall objectives will require creativity and innovation to define and execute a global product line strategy based on value-add rather than traditional commodity based sales.   
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:  (Management reserves the right to add or modify the duties and responsibilities at any time.)
 
  • Develop strategic product plans for the products within the defined product line that meet the objectives of Plant Nutrition and the company.
  • Ensure overall P&L management including achievement of price, margin, volume, revenue, and expense targets
  • Provide support to the sales team globally to achieve growth targets
  • Work closely with research/sales personnel, industry contacts and Compass Minerals personnel to accurately assess market conditions and identify new product opportunities
  • Work closely with the sales and agronomy teams to validate product performance on key crops and geographies ,for both new and old and products, with field trials designed to strengthen overall sales and marketing messages
  • Provide financial analysis for the product line, including current, new and potential products portfolio that will optimize the product line performance.
  • Identify and implement new promotional tactics to create awareness
  • Manage inventories of products to regional targets
  • Provide competitor market intelligence with regard to pricing, programs, marketing, promotion and products
  • Lead the development of product training for customers and sales staff
  • Assist with the development of the annual marketing plan and budget to ensure:.
    • Campaigns and Media plan fit the product strategy
    • Relevant sales support materials are available to customers and sales staff
    • Product positioning in the Global marketplace is consistent with the product strategic plan
    • Sales team has the necessary technical expertise to enable them to sell the product including printed and electronic promotional material, product training and relevant research papers
  • Responsible for preparing product forecasts, and inventory monitoring to support the monthly Supply Operations, and Inventory Planning process
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with peers and colleagues in Sales & Marketing, Customer Service, Equipment, Production, Protassium+ and other Corporate functions.
  • Actively engage in appropriate industry associations as required

Education and Experience:                           
Bachelor’s Degree in agricultural business or equivalent education and experience; MBA preferred.  Minimum of eight years ag sales, agronomy, ag marketing and ag business management experience in the agricultural space.  Experience in leading a team and a career history of consistently achieving challenging sales targets. 


Necessary skill sets:

  • Expertise in micronutrient and plant nutrition product management, marketing  and sales.   
  • Strong understanding of plant nutrition and agronomy.
  • Understanding of financial statements, key drivers of revenue and costs, margin management

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and share results with MS PowerPoint using charts, graphs, and summarizing data.
  • Ability to influence, motivate and develop personnel.

  • Strong selling skills and demonstrated effectiveness in value add sales and marketing.
  • Problem solving skills to identify complex drivers and potential solutions.
 
Travel:
Significant travel (about 25%) within the region and as required for internal and external meetings and conferences.
