DESCRIPTION:The EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has unprecedented extra-territorial reach.  Many local entities are subject to this new law.  Penalties for non-compliance are significant-- as high as 20 million euros or 4 percent of annual worldwide revenues.  Organizations to which the GDPR applies must not only takes steps in furtherance of their own compliance\, but also to help ensure that any vendors that they permit to access EU personal data are compliant. \n\nThis presentation will address:\n\n\n	Why the GDPR may impact your organization even if your organization has no European operations\n	The risks of non-compliance\n	What organizations must do to prepare to meet their expansive data protection obligations under the GDPR\n	How the GDPR is spawning stricter data protection laws around the globe (including in the U.S.)\n\n\n**This program is 1 of 6 presentations that will be hosted by the Institute of Management Accountants' Kansas City Chapter. Her industry experience includes financial services\; pharmaceutical and medical devices\; food and beverage\; architecture\, engineering\, and construction\; retail\, aviation\; manufacturing\; chemical\; insurance\; healthcare\; broadcast\, media and entertainment\; energy\; telecommunications\; and technology.\n\n \n\nLaura utilizes her deep expertise in data privacy and cybersecurity to helps U.S. and multinational organizations develop and implement practical\, legally compliant solutions to their unique privacy and cybersecurity challenges.  Laura is a member of the inaugural class of IAPP Fellows of Information Privacy (FIP).  She is a Certified U.S. and European Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US\; CIPP/E) and a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM).  The U.S. Department of Commerce and the European Commission have named Laura as one of 20 independent arbitrators who will resolve privacy complaints brought under the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework  Her experience includes being an Honor's Program attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice\, where she was an Outstanding Performance Award recipient.\n\n \n\nLaura has been selected as a Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyer  for eleven straight years beginning in 2007.
