DESCRIPTION:Join WiSTEMM and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation for a multi-part series designed to explore how to support the makers\, doers and dreamers in STEMM.  We believe entrepreneurship offers women unique opportunities.  Female founders in STEMM are needed to help close the workforce gap and Kansas City's vibrant startup community is ready to welcome you. This is the first of a multi-part series. Kathleen Boyle Dalen\, Chief Talent\, Integration and Culture Officer at Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation\, will facilitate a panel discussion with experts and local entrepreneurs on why now is the time for STEMM women to start their own businesses.  Panelists include:\n\nMaria Flynn\, President & CEO\, Orbis Biosciences\n\nDominique Davison\, Founder/CEO\, PlanIT Impact\n\nKim Gandy\, MD\, PhD\, Founder & CEO\, Play-it Health\n\nChrys Sullivan\, CEO Useagililty\n\n\n\nThey will discuss:\n\n\n	how get to get started\,\n	how to mitigate the fear of not having that perfect idea\,\n	misperceptions surrounding entrepreneurism\, and\n	how to leverage available resources\n\nKathleen Boyle Dalen is chief talent\, integration and culture officer at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation\, where her role is to foster a positive team culture and ongoing learning across the organization and maximize the Foundation's efficiency and impact. Her role includes engaging team members to explore new partnerships\, project development\, and relationship management through nurturing key connections that support the Foundation's goals. Boyle Dalen holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from American University in Washington\, D.C.\; a master's degree in psychology from Columbia University\; and a doctorate in psychology from Rutgers University. She is an adjunct professor at Rockhurst University. \n\nMaria Flynn is the President and CEO of Orbis Biosciences\, which revolutionizes the delivery\, efficacy\, and safety of pharmaceuticals.  Headquartered in Kansas City\, Orbis provides controlled-release delivery technology to companies looking to innovate their products by supporting the R&D and manufacturing efforts to integrate Orbis drug delivery technology into their products.  Maria's education includes an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business\, where she was a Herman Family Fellow for Women in Entrepreneurship\, an M.S. in engineering from Stanford University\, and a B.S. in engineering from Kansas State University. \n\nDominique Davison founded DRAW Architecture + Urban Design in 2005 with the desire to explore the intersection between research\, resourcefulness\, and simple\, clean forms. Her award-winning practice is a recognized leader in sustainability and was named Firm of the Year by the American Institute of Architects Kansas City Chapter in 2014. She has taught at the University of Kansas and University of Missouri-Kansas City.  Before relocating to Kansas City\, Dominique honed her design skills in the offices of Pelli Clarke Pelli in New Haven after earning her Master of Architecture at the Yale School of Architecture. She received a Bachelor of Art in Architecture from U.C. Berkeley and launched her career working with the New Urbanist Visionary Daniel Solomon FAIA.\n\nKIM GANDY MD\, PHD Founder / CEO\, Play-IT Health is a physician/scientist and entrepreneur with 25 year of experience in healthcare\, her clinical and scientific career including institutions such as Duke and Stanford. Having been a leader in her field of transplantation\, she has lead international committees in translational medicine and been selected by her peers as one of the nation's top doctors. Having cared for patients in transplantation and congenital heart disease\, she has a deep understanding of the importance and issues involved in motivating patients to be adherent. \n\nChrys Sullivan\, CEO Useagility\, Founder/CEO of Useagility\, an experience design consultancy headquartered in Kansas City. Usable\, intuitive product design translates directly to financial success for companies who sell technology and those who use technology. She has more than 20 years' experience in technology product management\, customer experience\, user experience\, and digital business strategy. Her specialty is in user experience strategy   connecting the dots between end user and business objectives to design products that work for users and make lots of money for our clients. Chrys is passionate about being a business owner and supporting fellow female entrepreneurs and technologists. She is a wife\, mother of three children and proud resident of Kansas City\, Missouri.
