Chef Renee Kelly’s playful and competitive spirit is very much alive and thriving throughout the Kansas City community as she is quickly becoming a well-known chef and thought-leader in the local, organic food movement. As an active athlete, gardener, writer and chef, Renee is passionate about creating and living an approachable, healthy lifestyle while supporting local farmers.
Graduating with honors from the Art Institute of Houston, Texas with a Culinary Arts degree, she later became a Certified Sous-Chef at the American Culinary Federation and gained additional experience at the prestigious River oaks Country Club, Houston, Texas. Chef Kelly has also worked as a celebrity Chef Liaison at Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cooking for Solutions, working along side with Alton Brown, Todd Fisher and other culinary greats. Because of her way with a whisk, and an unforgettable fiery personality, Chef Kelly was invited to be a guest at severable notable events such as the Houston and Los Angeles Food and Wine Festivals, the American Institute of Wine & Food, as well as The Sea Pines Resort, Hilton Head, South Carolina. After an eventful career outside of Kansas City, Chef Kelly returned home and opened Renee Kelly’s Harvest in July of 2012.
With more than a decade in the food industry, and after a life-changing diagnosis, Chef Kelly not only changed the way she thought about food, but the way she eats and cooks. Chef Kelly’s passion for food spills into her writing as she’s a regular contributor to the Kansas City Star’s online food blog, KC Chowtown. She constantly searches for local ingredients, new farmers, trends in food culture and regularly pays homage to new chefs and restaurants in town.
Renee Kelly’s Harvest is an approachable farm to table restaurant all wrapped up in a beautiful castle located just west of downtown Kansas City. The passion for supporting local farmers whom grow food with sustainable practices is key as Chef Kelly cares about her guests and what they’re eating. Renee Kelly’s Harvest menu changes often, reflecting the seasons in Kansas City. The goal of Harvest is to become a living, breathing fabric of sustainability in community. We are changing our food system, one plate at a time.
