With more than 38 years of service at YMCAs across the country, David Byrd leads the YMCA of Greater Kansas City with a passion to ensuring a brighter future for children, teens and families. He began his current role in June 2010, and is leading the organization through a new 10-year strategic vision plan.
A part-time job in youth development at the YMCA in Thomasville, NC, marked the beginning of Byrd’s career with the Y. He discovered his calling to serve with the Y movement, and eventually went on to serve in leadership roles including president/CEO of YMCA of Greater Durham in Durham, NC, vice president of operations of Central Florida YMCA in Orlando, Fla., and most recently, chief operating officer for the YMCA of Middle Tennessee in Nashville.
Byrd holds a master’s degree in Health Education in Business/Applied Science from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte and a Bachelor of Arts from High Point University in High Point, NC. He has two daughters and five grandchildren. He enjoys fly fishing, traveling, reading and spending time with family.
