DT | Courageous Conversations
The Courageous Conversations Series will bring people of all ethnic, cultural and community backgrounds together to discuss topics that may be viewed as sensitive, controversial or “off-limits.” Central Exchange will provide a safe place for honest dialogue and create the opportunity for an authentic and better understanding of one another.
The goal of the series is to begin genuine dialogue, by first creating a glossary of terms. We have to understand what we don’t know before we can move forward. For example, what does “Black Lives Matter” really mean? What does it truly stand for? Why don’t we say “All Lives Matter?” And what is a microaggression? Can someone tell me more about implicit and explicit bias? When someone says “white privilege” what does that mean? Do I say Latino or Hispanic? Or either or neither? And what is racism? How can I better understand the challenges and opportunities people of varying ethnic backgrounds, race, religion or cultural practices experience? How can we come together in unity? It all starts with a willingness to have Courageous Conversations. Together, we will move forward united.
