DT | CXL: Excel presents STEMM Pivot Panel - 11:45 a.m.
In CXL’s second installment of the CXL: Excel presentation series, two local entrepreneurs will share how they pivoted away from the “traditional” path for professionals in their field.
Architect Dominique Davidson AIA of PlanIt Impact and family physician Kylie Vannaman, MD of Health Suite 110 are solving persistent problems within their industries. PlanIt Impact makes it easy to integrate environmental data into the earliest stages of the architectural design process. HealthSuite 101 is a DPC co-op that allows physicians to have more meaningful interactions with their patients. These women will talk about how practicing in their respective fields inspired them to find innovative solutions for real issues in architecture and medicine. Come with questions about their experiences as women in STEMM, the challenges of innovating in such established fields, and their experiences gaining traction in the Kansas City start-up community!
Dominique Davison founded DRAW Architecture + Urban Design in 2005 with the desire to explore the intersection between research, resourcefulness, and simple, clean forms. Dominique is a founding member of both Women in Design Kansas City and the Ecological Urbanism Series, and her practice was named Firm of the Year by the American Institute of Architects Kansas City Chapter in 2014.
Since 2013, Dominique has been developing PlanIT Impact, a web application tool that allows architects and planners to understand resource impacts at the earliest stages of the design process. Linking Open Data with a development’s location, PlanIT Impact provides visually immersive feedback related to water, energy, CO2, transportation and potential ROI. The tool has attracted national attention and is disrupting the design and planning process for architects.
Dr. Kylie Vannaman, MD is a board-certified Family Medicine doctor who is passionate about restoring the doctor-patient relationship built on trust, communication and mutual respect. Dr. Vannaman grew up in Raymore, MO and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia Medical School, completing her 3-year Family Medicine Residency at MU in 2008.
During her residency, she travelled extensively and honed her clinical diagnostic skills since extraneous labs and imaging were often unavailable or financially unfeasible for her patients. After returning to the States, Dr. Vannaman determined that there was a better way to provide patient-centered care, particularly by utilizing low-tech interventions with emphasis on treating the whole person in context of their life experiences and situations, and founded Health Suite 110 as a direct primary care co-operative. Health Suite 110 allows physicians to share resources without working in a traditional, insurance-driven health system.
