DT | Impact Investing and the Transformation of Kansas City's Vacant Land - 11:45 a.m.
Fresh Coast Capital will present on the topic of impact investing, or opportunities to invest your money in alignment with your values rather than absent or in opposition to your values. This session will include an overview of the impact investing space along with an in-depth look at Fresh Coast Capital's own investable products that include the transformation of vacant, blighted land in Kansas City, MO and several other cities into working landscapes that both generate returns and create robust social, environmental and economic impact.
April is passionate about utilizing the tools of business to accelerate social and environmental change. She is a serial social entrepreneur who started in the nonprofit world and bridged over to the for-profit, impact investing space in recent years. She is currently Co-Founder of Fresh Coast Capital, an impact-driven real estate investment firm that turns vacant urban land in the American Rust Belt into an economic, social and ecological asset, which she will speak to in depth today. She previously co-founded Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC), a $4.5 million nonprofit that is transforming the way higher education engages religious diversity as well as The Crib Collective, an organization dedicated to developing social entrepreneurship among minority youth in some of Chicago's toughest neighborhoods. April holds a B.A. from Carleton College and is pursuing a degree at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University focusing on social innovation strategies including social finance.
