Sprint's Women to Watch series dives into the journeys of women leaders making a difference in Greater Kansas City!

Motivating People in Today’s Pop Culture World: How to build a culture to attract, engage and retain the younger generation.

It’s expected 70% of the workforce will be made up of younger generations – Millennials and Gen Z – this year. What they want from their workplace is far different than previous generations. Nancy Whitworth, Chief People Officer with McCownGordon Construction, named a Best Place to Work for Millennials by Fortune magazine, will lead a panel discussion of young, professionals discussing what they expect from their employer when it comes to opportunity, flexibility and innovation. She’ll uncover culture tips that help attract, engage and retain young workers and reveal the benefits organizations gain when they become a best place to work. After this interactive presentation, you’ll walk away with ideas to ignite engagement in your own companies.

Panelist:
  • Lexi Walz, Marketing and Content Manager at Generator Studio
  • Taylor Brenner, Project Manager at McCownGordon Construction
  • James Maiden, Marketing Manager at Folly Theater
  • Bree Hughes, Account Manager at Lockton

Nancy Whitworth serves as the Chief People Officer at McCownGordon Construction, where she’s led the HR and talent development teams for more than a decade. Nancy’s innovative approach to creating an engaging workforce culture lead the company to be named a Best Place to Work by the Kansas City Business Journal for 15 years in a row. It also ranked as a  best Mid-Size Company to Work For by Fortune in 2018. Nancy is also involved in several industry and  nonprofit organizations, including an organization that raises funds to build recovery houses called In the Name of Grace, which she co-founded.

Lexi Walz is the creative force behind marketing and communication, helping Generator Studio increase local and national brand recognition with innovative ideas. She develops all in-house content while always seeking different public relations opportunities. Her knack for people and inventive endeavors makes her a great fit for this growing company.

Taylor Brenner brings a unique assertive and efficient personality to her project teams. Starting as a project engineer, Taylor quickly ascended into the role of a Project Manager. A natural multi-tasker, she coordinates with the designers, clients and trade partners to successfully manage multi-million-dollar projects. She responsible for owner and trade partner contracts, submittals, RFIs, budgets, schedule development and management. Her strong leadership skills make Taylor adept at leading entire teams throughout the life cycle of a project.

James Maiden is the Marketing Manager at the Folly Theater. James has worked in the nonprofit sector for 3 years now. He is engaged with the Mid-America LGBT Chamber of Commerce in Marketing & the Metzler Mentor Program. A long time resident of Kansas City, he spends his time at different community events and with his partner and dogs.
