Dr. Kayla Curiel is the director of trauma services, the burn center, and the center for childhood safety and injury prevention at Children’s Mercy Kansas City. She started her career 18 years ago as a neonatal intensive care nurse. In 2008, she went back for her masters and became a certified pediatric nurse practitioner where she worked in various departments throughout her career. In 2018, she completed her doctorate with an emphasis in healthcare systems leadership with a goal to have a bigger voice, to make a bigger impact in healthcare systems to improve the care of the children and their families that hold a special place in her heart.
Her focus is on improving efficiency through the lens of ensuring the systems in place allow staff to grow, succeed, and reach their fullest potential. She is a data driven, system-oriented leader who thrives on curiosity.
Kayla is a mother, wife, and avid Chiefs fan who loves to travel carrying-on her passion for curiosity into her personal life. She sets on the board of directors for Life Unlimited, continuing her passion to improve the care of the most vulnerable in our communities.
Michelle Poston has been in the financial industry since 2005 and with Infinitas since 2009. She works with her clients to create an awareness of what is financially possible. Through the planning process she works alongside her clients to identify and prioritize their personal goals and desires so they can build wealth with purpose. As a trusted resource and confidant, she walks side by side her clients through life’s transitions to help relieve financial stress and build confidence. Ultimately, she wants her clients to feel confident in the financial decisions they are making today, enjoy their success, and live the life they envision.
In November 2016, she passed the CFP® board exam to become one of the only 23% women in CFP® professionals. Although many professionals may call themselves “financial planners,” CFP® professionals have completed extensive training and experience requirements and are held to rigorous ethical standards. They understand the complexities of the changing financial climate and know how to make recommendations in your best interest. Michelle completed the training and studying for the board exam over 2 years while continuing to work full time and focus on her family.
Benita Webber is a former Special Education teacher, small business owner, and long-time advocate and volunteer for nonprofit organizations dedicated to enriching the lives of children in under-resourced families.
Benita’s own childhood experience played its part in the inspiration to launch Birthday Connections. Raised by a single mom, and the youngest of five, most birthdays were not observed with customary fanfare and gifts. Though there was lots of love, financial struggles limited resources.
In an effort to find a volunteer opportunity in 2020, and not finding one that felt inspirational at the time, the idea occurred to her to research the available resources for marginalized children in Kansas City to celebrate their birthdays in a meaningful way. Finding a void, Benita began conceptualizing an idea for a nonprofit by building a team of friends with a passion for kids celebrating their birthdays, whose brainstorming sessions coalesced into Birthday Connections.
