Panelist Bios
Caroline Strohm has been an oncology nurse for 13 years. She was inspired to change careers from corporate sales because of the care she received after her own battle with Leukemia in 2003. Caroline now manages the Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cell Therapy Program at the University of Kansas Medical Center and works alongside the very doctors that saved her life almost 18 years ago. Research is near and dear to Caroline's heart because the cure for her cancer was an oral medication called Gleevec that proved to be a miracle drug during its clinical trials in 2000. Prior to this medication, the only cure for her cancer was a stem cell transplant. Caroline is married to her husband of 8 years, Jeffrey Strohm, and together they have 3 wonderful children.
Emily Dumler is a wife and mother of three. She was diagnosed with stage 3 Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2013. She was a stay-at-home mom with three young children at the time. She battled cancer for more than two years, undergoing nearly 50 blood and platelet infusions, 13 rounds of various chemotherapies, a stem cell transplant, and a life-saving clinical trial. She was the third patient in the world to receive a brand new clinical trial called CAR-T cell therapy in 2015. She now shares her story and does charitable work with Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to bring hope and awareness to others. In 2017, she raised more than $160,000 dollars and was awarded the title of Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Woman of the Year.
