VIRTUAL — The Four Tenets of Conscious Capitalism
Christina Long, Kelly Jackson, and Ron Hill, all Board Members of Conscious Capitalism KC, present the four tenets of Conscious Capitalism: Purpose Driven, Stakeholder Orientation, Conscious Leadership, and Conscious Culture. Bringing their experience in applying these principles in their own businesses, this panel will discuss each tenet and give an exercise to help you begin your journey on the path towards living Conscious Capitalism in your business.
What is Conscious Capitalism?
Conscious Capitalism believes that business holds the potential to be our greatest source of good to elevate humanity. The framework for the movement includes 4 tenets:
- Higher Purpose - Elevating humanity through business begins with knowing why your company exists. Businesses should exist for reasons beyond just making a profit. We see profit as a necessary means to achieving your purpose - not as an end in and of itself.
- Stakeholder Orientation - Critical to achieving your purpose is to value and create win-win-win outcomes for all of your stakeholders including your employees, customers, suppliers, investors, society, and the environment.
- Conscious Leadership - Conscious businesses cannot exist without conscious leaders. They are the stewards of the organization who keep the business focused on its purpose. They reject a zero-sum, trade-off oriented view of business and seek creative, synergistic solutions for all stakeholders.
- Conscious Culture - Cultures are as unique as the people who comprise them, but commonalities include trust, accountability, transparency, integrity, loyalty, egalitarianism, fairness, personal growth, love, and care.
Christina Long is a conscious leader with a passion for operationalizing growth strategies in purpose driven, people-centric, conscious business environments. She brings 25 years of diverse experience as an entrepreneur, a C-level executive, and a consultant, along with being both a visionary and an integrator as she works with companies and leaders to develop profit maximizing culture building strategies.
Kelly Jackson has had experience in working in several very different types of organizations, from the US Army, to a Fortune 500 Company and as an attorney addressing discrimination issues in organizations. Seeing the wide range of disfunction and disengagement in these organizations, she turned her attention to addressing how to create more conscious businesses where people can come to work as their whole self, the organization has a larger purpose beyond its bottom line, and all stakeholders, including the community are taken into consideration.
For 24+ years, Ron Hill have been fortunate enough to be a founder, entrepreneur, and student of life - working with the finest group of human beings I could ever imagine. Together we got messy, had fun, made mistakes, & disrupted an industry through innovation, teamwork, caring & helping our stakeholders thrive. We grew as leaders and human beings. Reflecting on my experience as the founder and Chief Enrichment Officer of Redemption Plus, it became crystal clear that business can elevate humanity while being profitable. You can do both, you must do both, and you should never compromise on navigating the polarity of each. This is the future of business.
