DT | The Gender Pay Gap: Fact vs. Fiction, and What You Can Do About It - 11:45am
The gender pay gap is the subject of enormous conversation in America today with vastly differing opinions on its importance and reality. This talk will explore the facts behind where there are truly wage gaps, where there aren’t, and the reasons behind these discrepancies. Wage gaps are real, but this issue is vastly more complicated than it appears on the surface, and like most business problems, once you understand the nuances of the issues the solutions are also not obvious. But the gap exists and there are issues that must be addressed, so various remedies and solutions will be explored on three levels: personal, corporate, and at a policy level.
Dan has over 30 years of general management and innovation experience, primarily for Coca-Cola and Hallmark. Dan retired from Hallmark Cards 2 years ago, where over his 15 years there he successively led as general manager the Season Cards, Everyday Card, Party and Gift Wrap organizations. Prior to Hallmark, he worked for Coca-Cola in a number of different roles including Brand Director for brand Coca-Cola in Europe and Africa.
Dan currently spends most of his time consulting in the areas of business model improvement, strategy and innovation. He also speaks frequently on these topics.
Dan teaches teaches strategy, leadership and entrepreneurship courses in the MBA program for the UMKC Bloch School. In 2015 he was named to the TechWeek 100 most influential leaders in Kansas City list and is somewhat anxiously waiting to hear if he made the cut again this year. He is an equity mentor for BetaBlox, a new business accelerator and has mentored over 50 start ups in the past few years. He is on the Board of Directors for Outreach International, a non-profit organization dedicated to curing poverty globally. He loves to travel and in January travelled to Antarctica – his 7th continent. Dan grew up in Wisconsin, is married, with a daughter who just began full on adulting with the Lockton Company in St Louis after graduating in May from Truman State. His son will be a junior at Alabama this fall (can I get a “Roll Tide?”) and is on his 5th major as he hopes to postpone adulting as long as possible.
