VIRTUAL | DEIB with Dr. Rebecca Baumgartner: It Begins With Us | Building Inclusive Cultures with Special Guest, Rashel Hughley

VIRTUAL | DEIB with Dr. Rebecca Baumgartner: It Begins With Us | Building Inclusive Cultures with Special Guest, Rashel Hughley

When we feel "belongingness," we experience not only connection and acceptance, but we feel that we are part of something bigger than ourselves. This series will explore concepts of belonging and othering, focusing on how we can foster more diverse and inclusive spaces for ourselves, our workplaces, and our communities.

Each month, Dr. Rebecca Baumgartner will present on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB), alternating fireside chats with interactive workshops. Although we encourage to come each month, you can start at any time.

By the end of this series you will have:

  • Started the internal work of belonging and self-acceptance

  • Learned and implemented inclusive leadership skills at home and at work

  • Identified the impacts of socialization on stereotypes and bias and ways to mitigate these

October's Session: Building Inclusive Cultures with Special Guest, Rashel Hughley

It has been proven that inclusive workplaces foster belonging, inspire innovation, and boost productivity. In fact, they outperform their competitors consistently. According to Deloitte research, organizations that have truly inclusive cultures are six times more likely to be innovative and six times more likely to anticipate and respond effectively to change.

But true inclusion must go beyond words and blanket statements; it must be seen, felt, and heard at every level. When employees lack trust in their organization?s efforts, they lose the sense of psychological safety.

Join us virtually on October 14th at Noon for a fireside chat with Dr. Rebecca Baumgartner and Rashel Hughley as they discuss how to build inclusive cultures.

Dr. Rebecca Baumgartner is the Vice President of Human Resources for the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. As a champion for personal and professional wellbeing, Rebecca brings her extensive background in human resources, organizational development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion to help others strengthen their personal awareness and build new skills to more powerfully navigate their journey. She draws from skill sets such as emotional intelligence, positive psychology, resilience, and courageous leadership to support others in their goals to become more inclusive and more impactful leaders to themselves and others.

Rashel Hughley is the founder of HR consulting firm 10:Ninety Inc., an organization focused on using the challenging and unexpected as fuel for the remarkable.    She partners with individuals and organizations that are serious about creating amazing employee experiences, highly effective teams and exceptional work cultures. Rashel is also a Sr. Director of Employee Experience for VMLY&R, the Kansas City region?s biggest digital marketing and communications agency.

In her nearly 20-year HR career, Rashel has worked for some of the world?s most recognizable industry leaders. In addition to VMLY&R, she has worked for Healthcare IT leader Cerner Corp., Hallmark Cards Inc., and as an adjunct professor at Rockhurst University.  Among other things, her broad experience includes leading teams focused on recruiting, employee experience, organizational effectiveness, learning & development.

Rashel is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia (BSBA, MBA) and has training in human-centered design and project management.  She was recently recognized as one of Ingram?s Magazine?s 40 Under Forty, a group of leaders that represent the future of business in Kansas City.

When she?s not working, you can find her volunteering in the community, in her garage working on a DIY project, or having impromptu dance parties in the living room with her husband, 18-month-old and 6-year-old.
